Paranormal Sites in Western Pennsylvania

Below are a few of the locations in western Pennsylvania where various paranormal activity has been reported. Also given is a brief synopsis of what is claimed to have happened there. The Quaker Meetinghouse and cemetery.

Located near Perryopolis Pennsylvania, the meeting house was reputed to have been used for various dark rituals in the late 1800s. Whether that is true or not, many have reported strange occurrances both inside and outside

It is located in the middle of a cemetery which has long been rumored to be the scene of many ghostly reports.

Kecksburg - A ravine along Meteor road was the scene in December of 1965 of a reported crash of something that to this day has not been identified. The Kecksburg UFO story has been featured in many TV and news reports and rivals Roswell for its mystery and intrigue.

Chestnut Ridge - The westernmost flank of the Appalacian Mountains, this ridge runs through Westmoreland and Fayette Counties in Pennsylvania and extends into West Virginia. The entire ridge is noted for many UFO, Bigfoot, and other events of hgh strangeness over the years.

Fayette County Courthouse- Uniontown. The basement of the courthouse is rumored to be haunted, at least by some who work there.

Another legend is that years ago hangings were conducted on the balcony below the clock tower. Rumor goes that the last person hanged there was put to death 5 minutes early, thus cheating him of the last 5 minutes of his life. He placed a curse on the clock that it would always be 5 minutes off.

To this day it has been serviced numerous times, but never seems to keep correct time. A curse?

The Gates of Hell - Tent Church road, 4 miles south of Uniontown, Rt 119. Strange things have been seen and heard there. Legend goes that a deranged man and a woman lived in a house just below the gate. One night he murdered her, burned their house, then killed himself. People say that at certain times diabolical laughter and other strange sounds are heard coming from the ravine just beyond the gate. Lights have been seen floating in the woods which have grown up where the house once stood.

Darr Mine Disaster - Near Van Meter, along the Youghigheny Bike Trail. It is the site of one of the worst mine disasters in U.S. history, in December of 1907, 239 miners were killed in an explosion. People report hearing voices as they traverse the bike trail. Lights and mists have been reported by some who venture into the area.
