Washington County, Pennsylvania

17 August, 2006

This is a summary regarding an investigation begun this week in Washington County, Pa. The witness is asking that his name be withheld from public reports, however any evidence gathered has been approved for release provided it does not compromise his anonimity.

Three investigators did the initial interview to determine the nature of the case on 16 August. Two incidents stand out. First is the claim of doors opening and closing with no one present. The doors were inspected and found to be standard hollow core doors. There was no obvious problems related to hinges or latch mechanisms, and all doors were well balanced and showed no tendency to move due to their not being square or leveled properly. The house has central air, and windows are normally kept closed, as they were in every case the doors moved, according to the witness. The air conditioning was turned on and doors inspected to determine if air movement from the A/C was responsible. In no case was sufficeint air movement present to cause a door to open or close. Return air registers are present in all rooms which minimizes air movement through the doorways.

The second incedent involves the car. According to the witness this car has started on its own while sitting in the garage on two occassions. Hearing the sound from inside the house, he went out to find the switch in the on position and the engine running. The key was not in the ignition. In this model, it is possible to remove the key once the ignition is started, however one cannot turn the switch from "off" to any position unless the key is inserted. The key is kept on a nail in the kitchen which is where it was on each occurance. There is no evidence anyone tampered with the key or removed it to start the car. On both occassions, he simply shut the engine off and no further activity was noticed.

We decided to monitor the garage from inside and set up a CCTV camera and monitor that observes the car parked in the garage. The witness will advise if anything is noticed or if the car starts on its own again. So far nothing has been seen.

Regarding the door activity, we checked the area with EMF monitors and also took some photos. No temperature deviations were noted and no other anomalies to report.

The investigation continues, updates as warranted.

Update 21 August

I am including this a a matter of record only. On Saturday, I received a call from the witness stating the VCR I had left there to monitor the car had failed. I went to his place to replace the VCR with another one Monitoring was back in operation. No activity was reported at the residence, monitoring continues.

The VCR failure was the result of a belt breaking internally. It is repaired and now functioning normally.

Per a phone interview, the witness reported no activity since our previous vsit. Hours of tape has been recorded monitoring the car and no problems encountered nor unusual activity observed. Monitoring will continue for a while yet, especially as the seasons change and temperatures cool in event that thermal conditions are in some way responsible.
